The light in Italy is just marvelous. We had gone south for a couple of days to Lago di Garda and indulged in the fantastic cuisine of our hosts. How precious life can be.

Welcome to my working space in Schwabing. After renovating for nearly 6 months I call this little beauty mine. And of course I dedicated the name to one of the most precious and inspiring places I have seen so far.

Anna and I had decided to make a little trip to the Indian Ocean, so we took Brigitte, Stefan and Julia along and strolled through Mauritius on the search for beauty.

While we were shooting a fashion story for a new magazine Sarah suddenly found herself with that Caribbean Feeling

We spent a day in the studio testing some new lights… Outside it was freezing over again and by now everyone is really dying for spring. So I figured let’s give it a Miami summer mid-day look. God I wish I was there now.

I was really looking for a new indoor look, so we got together in the studio, Robby cooked some amazing italian seafood lunch and we tried out some artists space feeling. Not too hard if you have about a hundred painters in the same building. Thanks for a gorgeous weekend everybody!

Ein paar Wochen später besuche ich ihn und Kira nochmals, und wir trinken eiskaltes Bier auf dem Marktplatz und schauen den Kleinen beim Herumtoben zu, während ein warmer Wind durch die schattigen Gassen weht.

Im bewussten Gegensatz zu der sonstigen farblichen Brillianz und sonnigen Ausstrahlung seiner Arbeiten zeigt sich Lohmann nun im gewollt anderen Licht, einer düsteren und mysteriösen Stimmung, einer statischen, eingefrorenen Pose, einer beinahe existentialis-tischen Anmutung. Durch das 18x24cm Grossbildnegativformat, spezielle Filmemulsionen, die kontraststeigernde Filterung und den bewussten völligen Verzicht auf Variationen, Bildauswahl oder gar Retusche schafft er eine Unmittelbarkeit und eine Authentizität, die im Zeitalter der digitalen Revolution beinahe atavistisch anmutet.

Im Zentrum steht der Mensch und seine Geschichte, die durch die detaillierten Ausprägungen der grossformatigen und bis ins feinste Detail abgebildeten Gesichter erzählt wird.
